As a dermatologist who spends a great deal of time talking to people about skin health, wellness and aging, I find that people are quite interested in the topic of collagen but often poorly informed about its real function and completely in the dark about how it is created and how it is destroyed.
Collagen is the primary element in the dermis of the skin – where wrinkles appear. As we age, the amount of natural collagen in our skin diminished – and it is further reduced when environmental damage occurs.
Fortunately, there are a number of things we can do in our everyday lives to help preserve and even boost the amount of collagen in our skin.
Here is a short video in which I discuss why collagen is so important and some of the things we can do to protect this precious resource.
